Bread Baking with Harts Barn

Baking Bread

Harts Barn Cookery SchoolYesterday I attended a class on baking bread at Harts Barn Cookery School . Both Vanda and I adore good bread and my results have been varied to say the least, hence the day’s lesson. The School is near Longhope in the Forest of Dean in lovely surroundings with several buildings used for all sorts of activities and of course a fully fitted kitchen.

Our tutor for the day was Andy Robertson, a knowledgeable man who is a professional baker. He was an excellent teacher who obviously knew his subject well and in addition to the teaching he kept us amused with stories and delved into some of the history of baking bread.

During the day we baked a white loaf, bread rolls with and without poppy seeds, a pizza base , tear and share loaves pitta bread and soda bread.

We ate the pizza for lunch with lots of toppings and a salad provided by the School.

Despite my ineptitude all of the bread I baked there was delicious. In short an enjoyable and very interesting course where I learned a lot. I can highly recommend Harts Barn cookery School and will be returning for other courses.
