I have worked hard all my life. Now

I have worked hard all my life. Now I am really enjoying my retirement. It was a big gamble selling the business and then our house in Churchdown but it has all worked out very well. Both Vanda and I are loving living in the Royal Forest of Dean. The house is perfect for us and our garden is slowly …

Settling in nicely now in the Royal Forest of Dean

We are now well under way in our new life in Cinderford. A wood burner has been installed and we have got rid of the terrible wallpaper on the chimney breast. This morning we had our very first load of logs delivered. It is now stacked in the shed ready for use. I must confess it half killed me moving …

Enjoying the Forest of Dean

I must say, both Vanda and I are thoroughly enjoying living in Cinderford. We have now planted up the vegetable garden, and we are now having a good time pottering about in it . The CD’s you can see hanging there are our own “scarecrow”. As soon as I planted anything the magpies were there pecking at the plants, so …

Creating a vegetable plot

Work is now well under way to create our new vegetable plot. The redoubtable Ben is seen here rotovating the lawn and getting ready for the new vegetable garden. This will all be “Deep Beds” so never walked upon. We are hoping to be able to start planting early next week. As well as the gardening there is still a …

A smashing lunch at the Glasshouse Inn

We regularly eat here because it is a delightful spot and the food is great and today was no different. I had a roast beef sandwich and Vanda had king prawns. Naturally we also shared a bowl of chips. We washed it down with a couple of smashing beer shandies. I can also highly recommend their Sunday lunch. Another thing …

Getting on with the garden

We are getting on nicely now with our new garden. the bottom end is well on the way with our planters filled and growing well. The lawn is due to be dug up next week, and replacing it with a vegetable plot should be finished next week with any luck

A big Thank you to Luke at Softdata Internet

I have always been a great supporter of local business. When I retired I wanted a reliable blog, not for business purposes but as part of my retirement. I went to Softdata because I know the company and Luke, and really didn’t want my money going to another large corporation that hardly notices I’m there. I haven’t been disappointed. The …

More achieved

We are really loving living here. Yesterday we bought a wood burning stove from http://corinium-stoves.co.uk/ and that is being installed next month. It is something I have always wanted. We have also booked a local gardener to remove a lawn and create a vegetable garden for me. I have also started a new web site – Cinderford Life so I will be …

Settling into the Forest of Dean

We have now been in Cinderford for nearly 3 weeks. As you can see, Vanda is out in the garden enjoying a glass or 3 of wine. I will put up some more photos ASAP, but today we have light rain so the light isn’t too special. We are having a new wood burner fitted very soon into Fuschia Cottage …
