First year in retirement in the Forest of Dean

Cinderford Forest of DeanWell, today marks a full 12 months since I retired. It has been very eventful. We have sold our house in Churchdown, bought this little cottage in the Royal Forest of Dean, installed a wood burning stove and created a brand new garden.

Cinderford has turned out to be a delightful little town full of small local business with lots of take aways, several butchers and more than 1 bakery. All in all it has been a great year.

Our new garden has produced beans, cauliflowers, courgettes, aubergines, sprouts and leeks. This week we will be concentrating on the compost heaps and forking over the soil to make ready for next year’s veg.

In my next blog I’ll be showing how to create that compost and Vanda will also be posting on shopping and cooking
