Planting Christmas Potatoes

This year we had a bumper crop of both new and main crop potatoes, but Christmas Potatoes is something I have not tried before, so this is an experiment to see if it is worth while. I bought a few seed potatoes from Coleford Garden Centre and this morning put a few in. Once again I have planted them in pots and followed the same procedure as I did earlier.

I simply placed a small amount of compost into the pot and then placed the seed potatoes with the growing shoot pointing up towards the top. I then just covered them with more compost and watered them. When the green shoots appear then I will just add more compost so it is the equivalent of earthing them up in the garden.

It will be interesting to see if they do as well as the normal crops, but so long s we don’t get early frosts I can see no reason why they shouldn’t grow well. I will of course let you all know
