New cycle in the vegetable garden

New cycle in the vegetable garden

We harvested the last of our leeks this week, but the seeds we planted a few days back are now up and showing. I now have all my new potatoes out and they are growing well in this nice warm weather. As you can see from the photo on the left we have garlic and potatoes all growing in containers and the 2 plastic troughs were planted out yesterday with Early Nantes and sugarsnax carrots.

In our larger trough a single row of Amsterdam Forcing carrots were also planted. We use loads of carrots and they grow beautifully in containers. If you haven’t tried it then I recommend you do. You get lovely straight vegetables with no forking at all and so far we have not been bothered with carrot root fly on any of our containers, but those planted in the soil have not been so lucky.

The perpetual spinach is still going strong. Another very easy vegetable to grow. Pepper seeds are also just coming up and we will be sowing all sorts of vegetable seeds over the weekend. Our 2 cherry trees are full of blossom so fingers crossed for a good harvest. Happy Easter to you all
