Lunch at the Butchers Arms Clearwell

Sunday Lunch at the Butchers Arms Clearwell

Butchers Arms ClearwellToday we were invited to lunch at the Butchers Arms Clearwell by a friend who had come down from Devon. Clearwell is not far from us in Cinderford and is a beautiful part of the Forest of Dean that we have visited many times, but this was our first time in the pub. Well, what a delight from start to finish. As I pulled into the car park we saw a young couple, obviously a local business decorating a horse and carriage ready for a local wedding. The very nice young lady told us the landlord was always happy for them to use the space. A great example of local business supporting each other.

The Butchers Arms Clearwell forest of deanWalking into the pub we saw their lovely little garden with a water feature, where on good days you can eat and drink in comfort. The interior is typical of many of the pubs in the forest of dean with a traditional layout, a good bar serving lots of different beers and of course a wood burning stove ready for the winter.

Sadly as we were driving we only had a small beer shandy, but it was delicious. We were shown to our table and given a menu to look at. Well, we were spoiled for choice. Take a look for yourself on their web site here.

Vanda and I ordered roast beef and our friend Barry decided on roast chicken. All 3 meals came with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a separate dish of peas, broccoli and carrots and red cabbage. The meal also included a pig in blanket sausage and some stuffing. Yummy.

All 3 of us were more than happy with the food and the friendly service, and we will certainly return and next time take them up on their 3 courses for £19.95
