Father’s Day

Yesterday turned out to be one of the best days of my life. My daughter, who lives in Southampton gave me a ring on Saturday to let me know she had booked a table for Vanda and I at the Farmers boy, for Father’s day at one of our favourite pubs.

We had a lovely drive there via Littledean and Mitcheldean and arrived at the pub a little early so I ordered a couple of beer shandies. We enjoyed these and chatted to a lovely couple who were there with a small baby. The Farmer’s boy is child friendly but I have never seen any of the children mis behaving there, so always a lovely atmosphere there and the staff are all very nice.

Vanda did seem to be taking a long time over her drink, and I started to wonder why she was so reluctant to make up her mind what to eat. She seemed to take for ever to drink up her half pint, made several trips to the toilet and asked about 3 times what the soup of the day was.

By now I was getting hungry and I must admit I thought that She who must be Obeyed was going senile. Was it early dementia ? Well eventually all became clear.

I was shocked to see my daughter Lara walk into the pub. She had driven all the way up from Southampton  just to see me on Father’s day. I was flabbergasted and of course delighted. I can’t tell you all how much that touched me.

I must also thank Hannah and all the staff there for managing the subterfuge during a busy service. I highly recommend the Farmers Boy
