The Forest of Dean Children’s Opportunity Centre is a registered charity set up in 1982 to answer a need in the local community. We provide services and support to children from birth to age 7 who have a special need and their families and aim to promote full inclusion. Our philosophy being that children with a special need can play, learn and develop alongside their peers in a fully integrated environment that is safe, warm and stimulating.
Our Centre has grown and diversified to meet the needs of families in the area and is the only centre of its kind in Gloucestershire. We are open all year and have proved invaluable to the 200 or so families we support annually.
Our services include home visits, a variety of support groups and fully inclusive preschool and play-scheme sessions. Our sessions have a 50:50 split of special needs and able bodied children so that children of all abilities can learn, play and develop together. Sessions take place in our purpose built Centre in Coleford where we have a big, happy playroom, a therapy room and a multi-sensory room.
